A Report On Interpreting For The 16^th China International Machine Tool Show 2019 From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

China International Machine Tool Show,China’s largest international machine tool exhibition,is hosted by China Machine Tool & Tool Builders’ Association.Since 1989,CIMT has become a platform for the latest achievements in modern equipment manufacturing technology.It is a vane and barometer for the progress of mechanical manufacturing technology and the development of machine tool industry in China.On April 17 th,the author conducted bilingual interviews and consecutive interpretation as interpretation practices for some domestic and foreign exhibitors at the 16 th CIMT.As a very practical translation theory,the Interpretive Theory emphasizes that translation should be divided into three stages.That is,comprehension,devebalization and re-expression.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,the interpreter can adopt various stragegies such as explaniation strategy,re-organize sentence structure strategy and logical improvement strategy to convey the information of the source language smoothly and accurately,so as to make the interpretation accepted by the listeners and effectively achieve the purpose of communication.Adhering to the core idea of the Interpretive Theory that interpretation serves communication,aming at the characteristics that the language in machine tool industry is specialized and the language in interviews is straightforward taking the materials in the interpretation practice as examples and combining the three translation principles emphasized in the Interpretive Theory,this practice report analyzes the problems such as ambiguous sentences,unclear logic strucure and information redundancy.Simplification method,omission method,cognitive complement method,logical improvement method,re-organize sentences structure method are adopted as the coping strategies during the interpretation to accurately convey the core idea of the source language and promote the communication between enterprises(speakers)and consumers(listerners).Based on the analysis of the author’s performance in this interpretation practice,this report also finds out some shortages of the author himself such as the deficiencies in English skills handling,interpretation theory learning and knowledge reserving,some corresponding improvement methods are proposed to improve his interpretation ability.This report is also expected to bring some enlightenment to the application of interpretation theory in business interpretation or media interpretation.
