Study On "Ming" Of Mencius

Mencius’ thought of “Ming” is not only a significant part in his ideological system,but also a critical point bridging the preceding and subsequence of the traditional Confucian philosophy of destiny.In modern society,it is inevitable to integrate the positive effects of the thought of“Ming” with the Life and practice.This helps pursue a practical manner to realize creative transformation of the traditional culture.Under this premise,the author,combining excellent previous research results,systematically explore Mencius’ thought of “Ming” in this paper.Excluding the last part of conclusion,this thesis covers four chapters:The first chapter,introduction,focuses on research background of Mencius’ thought of“Ming”,research status,research methods and research significance.This chapter is a preparatory stage for the beginning of this research.The second chapter is about the theory source and forming background of Mencius’ thought of “Ming”.It designed to clarify the possibility theory and realistic situation of Mencius’ thought of “Ming”,based on the environment where Mencius is.After that,the author studies Mencius’ thought of “Ming” from a historical dimension.The third chapter mainly tell the main content of Mencius’ thought of “Ming”,including the definition of Mencius’ thought of “Ming”,the attitude of “Ming” from Mencius’ perspective,the practice of “Ming”,the status of “Ming” in his theory and the relationship between“Ming” and his other theory.In the fourth chapter,the author elaborates on the influence of Mencius’ thought of “Ming” to later Confucianism and its modern significance.This part aims to illustrate that Mencius’ thought of “Ming” has not only an immeasurable and profound impact on Chinese traditional Confucian philosophy,but also theoretical and practical significance in current era.From above argument,it is concluded that “Ming” is an important category in Mencius’ thought,which has rich connotation.Its connotation makes the unity between irresistible force and man’s subjectivity.For “Ming”,Mencius believes that a person should not only be content with his or her destiny,but also emphasize an effort to control it.As youngsters,it is necessary to comply with “Ming” and shoulder the historical responsibility of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Meanwhile,youngsters ought to exert their subjective initiative fully and put moral principle into practice consciously when they face the “Ming”beyond human capabilities.
