| In recent years,China has been advocating the development of vocational education.we should not only pay attention to the speed of Vocational education development,but pay more attention to the quality of its development.As one of the public basic courses,English course plays an important role in improving students’ overall qualities.Besides,a high-quality English textbook can give full play to its educational role.Although China has made great progress in the construction of teaching materials,it also faces some new challenges.For example,although there are many kinds of textbooks,the quality is a mixed bag.The unified textbooks compiled by the state cannot meet the needs of different regions,especially ethnic regions.Tibet is a region with its own unique environment,language and culture.Through investigations,it is found that the English textbooks used by secondary vocational schools in Tibet are uniformly compiled textbooks,and the students have difficulty in learning English.Therefore,the author investigated the teachers and students of the Public Administration and Service Department of Lhasa NO.2 Secondary Vocational School through questionnaires and interviews.Through the analysis of the applicability of its English textbooks,this paper tries to find out its advantages and disadvantages,and puts forward corresponding suggestions for further improvement.In general,it is found that the overall structure of the textbook is reasonable.Firstly,each unit is developed with a topic,and the topics take into account the practicality of the content.Secondly,in the compilation of this textbook,the arrangement of pictures and texts is more reasonable,and there are more illustrations,which can attract students’ attention.Thirdly,there are many topics involved in the textbook,especially the topics about daily life.In addition,there are various types of genres in the textbook,mainly practical writing.Finally,the linguistic knowledge,like vocabulary,grammar and phonetic symbols,basically meets the requirements of the outline.Through the investigation,there exists the following six problems in The applicability of public English textbooks of Lhasa NO.2 Secondary Vocational School.First,the combination of teaching materials and national culture is insufficient.Second,students in Lhasa NO.2 Secondary Vocational School have difficulties in learning the language knowledge in this English textbook.Third,the teaching textbook has problems in the training of students’ language skills.Fourth,generally speaking,the teaching and evaluation methods are monotonous.Fifth,the connection of this textbook with other textbooks needs to be strengthened.Sixth,this textbook lacks the supporting of relevant teaching materials.From what has been discussed above,this paper puts forward five suggestions to promote the applicability of English textbooks for students of Lhasa NO.2 Secondary Vocational School.First,In English textbooks,there should be more relevant contents concerning Tibetan culture.Second,In English teaching,more Tibetan language should be combined.Third,the teaching and evaluation methods should be enriched.Fourth,the connection of this textbook with other textbooks should be enhanced.Finally,the supporting of relevant teaching materials should be further improved. |
