In recent years, the combination of online learning and face-to-face classroom learning has attracted widespread attention, and many studies on blended learning have emerged at home and abroad.Blended learning, with its gradual popularization in colleges and universities,is still a relatively new learning experience for students, and accordingly students always have a process of adapting to learning. With the continuous development of the information-based education pattern, the continuous popularization of blended learning, and increasing problems of learning adaptation today, students’ adapting to college English learning in the blended learning environment is facing greater challenges, which will,to a large extent, lead to college students’ academic problems and weariness, and even cause the dropouts. Thus,it is necessary to study students’ English learning adaptability in the blended college learning environment. From the existing studies, researchers rarely explore English learning adaptability in the blended learning environment, which provides a space for a further research. Therefore,a research on the current situation of non-English majors’ English learning adaptability in the blended learning environment has been done, with the aim to find out the existing problems, propose some targeted suggestions, promote students’ adaptation to college English learning, and provide some references for follow-up researches to some extent. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods have been adopted in this study.Firstly, classroom observations on two college English classes in a university of Chongqing had been conducted, only to find that students had problems in adapting to college English learning, which provides some references for constructing the questionnaire in this study. Then,a questionnaire survey on 726 students from 31 college English classes as well as an interview with 58 students and 10 teachers have been conducted,in order to investigate the current situation and existing problems of non-English majors’ English learning adaptability in the blended learning environment. The results show that non-English majors can adapt generally to English learning in the blended learning environment, however, there are still some problems.Students do not pay much attention to college English learning. They do not adapt to English learning resources and online platforms. Also, they are passive in class participation and lack English autonomous learning strategies. In addition, students from flipped classroom are more adaptable to the blended ways of English learning.Based on the results above, suggestions from five aspects are put forward, strengthening adaptability counseling of college English learning, optimizing learning resources and platforms, attaching importance to extracurricular English learning, developing autonomous learning strategies and promoting college English flipped classroom teaching.
