A Practice Report On Consecutive Interpreting For The Interview On 2019 International Medical Innovation And Cooperation Forum

With the sustained growth of China’s economy,the medical market in China has become more developed and the exchanges between countries in this field have gone deeper.On May 26,the 2019 International Medical Innovation and Cooperation Forum opened in Fangchenggang,China.The participants held in-depth discussions and reached broad consensus on the topics of national health,disaster relief,disease prevention and control,medical services,traditional medicine,and medical personnel exchanges.During this forum,the author served as the consecutive interpreter for the interview of the Indian guest,Mr.Mrinal Kanti Das,which is a valuable experience for the author.This paper,including 5 chapters,will analyze the whole interpreting process with Interpretive Theory of Translation as guidance.The first part is Chapter 1,Introduction,which gives an overview of this paper.Chapter 2 is Literature Review,which briefly introduces the Interpretive Theory of Translation and summarizes relevant researches in the field of interview interpreting and medical interpreting.Chapter 3 Pre-Interpreting Preparation and Chapter 4 Case Study will analyze the whole interpreting process under the guidance of Interpretive Theory of Translation.In Chapter 3,the author will elaborate the background of this task,and introduce her preparation before interpreting.In Chapter 4,the author will analyze the difficulties she met in this task and promote corresponding interpreting skills,including skills in tackling Indian English,omission,paraphrase and how to deal with the unexpected situation.Meanwhile,in Chapter 4,the author will also analyze her interpreting failures,such as misinterpreting,pretermission,grammatical mistakes,disfluency and other mistakes in order to avoid them in the future.The final part is Conclusion,which is a general summary of the foregoing,clearly points out the significance of Interpretive Theory of Translation in interpreting process,and summarizes the author’s valuable experience and gains in this task.The professional and complexity of medical interpreting has put a lot of interpreters off.Through this paper,the author hopes to provide reference for people who are interested in medical interpreting,as well as for interpreters in the same situation,so as to timely change interpreting methods,solve the difficulties encountered,improve interpreting quality and provide better services to customers.
