| With the vigorous development of the information age,people need to distinguish massive amounts of information and knowledge in a critical way.The National English Curriculum Standard for Common Senior High School(2017)mentioned that students should read a text critically in the English language skills’ contents.English teachers should help students to obtain skills of prediction,skimming,scanning and guessing.Critical reading isn’t a process in which readers passively obtains information,but a process of actively exploring the deep meaning of the text,and finally reaching a deep communication with the author.And this is not only a requirement for English reading teaching,but also a positive promotion for English teaching.This paper is based on reviewing a large number of literature to understand the current research status of the combination of critical reading and English reading teaching at home and abroad,and analyzes the main problems existing in the current English reading teaching in senior high schools.To this end,the author targeted all students from two classes in the senior high school conducted a three-month teaching experiment.Among them,experimental class adopts a critical reading teaching method.The controlled class still uses the traditional reading teaching method.After the experiment,the English reading comprehension scores of all students before and after the experiment were collected and compared with SPSS 22.0.The scores of the experimental class were observably higher than those of the control class.In terms of concrete question types,there is a significant difference between the analyzed,inferred and generalized question types.By comparing and analyzing the experimental datum on the English reading strategy questionnaire in the experimental class,the students’ awareness of using reading strategies has improved significantly.In addition,the author also interviewed students in the experimental class to know how students feel about critical reading teaching.The study found that English reading teaching in the senior high school under the guidance of critical reading theory improved the accuracy of students’ English reading comprehension,the ability to analyze,infer and generalize in reading and the awareness of using reading strategies.According to the research’s results,some relevant suggestions are put forward.The author hopes to make some contributions to improving students’ reading ability in senior high schools through this experiment. |
