| Reading ability is an important part of the students’ English learning.Only when students improve their English reading ability can they better acquire the language information of the article,understand the main content of the article,improve their language output ability,and improve their language learning ability.The English curriculum standards for compulsory education issued by the ministry of education in2011 clearly states that the reading skills of junior middle school graduates are to enable students to deeply understand the reading content and improve their reading ability.Therefore,it is necessary to cultivate students’ reading ability,especially the reading ability of middle school students.However,teachers still adhere to use the traditional teaching methods in the actual English teaching.Students don’t grasp the reading learning strategy and students’ interest in English reading and ability don’t improve.With the new curriculum reform of High School Entrance Examination,student-centered reading teaching has been gradually changed,which shows that students’ English reading ability must be improved.In order to improve students’ English reading ability,scholars at home and abroad have made different attempts,among which mind map is an important way.The grid structure of mind map can cultivate students’ divergent thinking and creative thinking.We should make students become interested in English reading,improve students’ reading ability,make students learn meaningfully and become the master of learning.Therefore,based on the research of mind map,this study discusses the teaching of English reading in junior middle school and conducts experimental research on the following questions: 1.Can the application of mind map in English reading teaching in junior middle school can help to improve the reading interest of middle school students;2.Can the application of mind map in English reading teaching in junior middle school help students deepen their understanding of reading texts and improve their ability to retell reading articles;3.Can the application of mind map in English reading teaching in junior middle school can help cultivate students’ independent learning ability and then promote their reading ability and reading performance.By reviewing the related theories of mind map and reading,the author combines schema theory,constructivism theory of knowledge,and visualization theory of knowledge in this study.In the teaching experiment,the author explores the feasibility of the application of mind map in junior middle school.In order to verify this,the author takes two classes in grade two of a middle school in Zichuan district,Zibo city as research objects and lasts a semester teaching experiment on the two classes by means of questionnaire survey,interview and teaching experiment.The experimental class adopts the new model of mind map in English reading,while the control class adopts the traditional reading teaching method.The author conducts a pre-test and a post-test for the two classes through questionnaires and reading comprehension test,and compared the data analysis of questionnaires and reading comprehension in the experimental class and the control class.The results show that the experimental class has significant differences in the following aspects: 1.The interest in English reading in the experimental class increased obviously;2.The ability of students in the experimental class to understand the text and retell the text has been significantly improved;3.The reading comprehension scores of students in the experimental class were significantly higher than those in the control class.The research shows that the application of mind map in junior high school English reading teaching can help to cultivate students’ interest in reading,help students to deepen their understanding of reading texts,improve their retelling ability of reading articles,and further promote learners’ reading ability and reading achievement.The reference of mind map makes students become the real masters of learning.Instead of passive learning,students take the initiative to discover,explore and understand.Mind map has a positive impact on students’ reading ability. |
