A Report On Prose Translation From The Perspective Of Reception Aesthetics

This translation material of the practice report is excerpted from an international publicity book of prose stylistic Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature: An Open Course.According to the translated part,this report extracts the contents of Unit Five with the theme of “Love and Marriage” as the analytical material.In the process of translation,the writer found that how to make the translation acceptable for potential readers to satisfy their reading expectation is a difficult problem.The standard to measure the quality of translation is the acceptance degree of readers.Therefore,this practice report will take “Reception Aesthetics” proposed by German theorists Hans Robert Jauss and Wolfgang Iser as a theoretical perspective,and fully consider the role of potential readers in the text reception process,so as to reflect the actual aesthetic value of the translation.Based on the differences between Chinese and English,this practice report makes a targeted analysis from three levels: lexical aesthetics,syntax aesthetics and textual aesthetics,specifically including interpretive translation,practical translation,the disposal of modifiers,the integration translation and literal translation.The translation strategies and methods adopted in the process of translation are all aimed at shortening the aesthetic distance between the text and potential readers,and achieving the fusion of their horizons,so as to meet the readers’ horizon of expectation to the greatest extent.In this practice report,the theory of “Reception Aesthetics” is applied to specific examples to provide guidance,and solve the problem raised through the above specific methods.On one hand,it enriches the practical guiding significance of the theory,and on the other hand,it also improves the quality of English translation of this kind of textual materials with certain reference significance.
