C-E Translation Report Of Subtitle In Documentary Xinhua Bookstore

As a form of film and television works,documentary is one of the effective means to spread culture under different languages and culture backgrounds,and plays an important role in cultural exchanges.The subtitle translation of documentary is different from the traditional text translation.It is independent of the normal text presentation and browsing methods,which has a large number of intermediate media.As a result,subtitle translation should not only follow the general principles of interlanguage communication,but also be influenced by other symbolic forms such as time,space,picture,and sound.The translation project selects Xinhua Bookstore as the source text,the first episode of The Days in Yan’an and the second episode of On the Xibaipo,which was shot by CCTV in 2017.From the perspective of the relationship between subtitle text and the picture,the general documentary has the following three characteristics: 1.Subtitle is dependent;2.Subtitle is popular;3.Subtitle and picture is irreversible.Subtitles and pictures are different from books that can be read repeatedly,they are irreversible both in time and space.At the same time,the translation of documentary subtitle has its inherent principles: principle of aesthetic,principle of equivalence,Principle of time and space.Combining the translation examples in Xinhua Bookstore,the translator summarizes corresponding translation method under the guidance of the three major principles: reduction,supplement,annotation and rewriting,in order to find better ways to improve the readability of translation text.And it finally comes to a conclusion: when processing the the subtitle translation of documentary,the translator should try her best to make the translation conform to the viewing and thinking habits of foreign audiences,and make the necessary adjustments to the original text to achieve the best publicity effect.
