This paper aims to study the relationship between Buganda and Uganda from 1894 to 1967.Because of Buganda’s constant pursuit for independence,their relationship has experienced a transition from cooperation to conflict.The study on the relationship is helpful to understand the formation and evolution of relationship between the central and the local in African countries.This study defines the relationship as the central and the local.On this basis,it combs their political interaction in four periods.This study examines the process on their relationship’s establishment,development and disintegration,mainly involving the colonial history and early Republic history in Uganda.In addition,this study divides the relationship into four periods,trying to summarize the core issues of each period.Finally,this paper attempts to analyze the logic of the evolution of the relationship.By the study of the relationship,this paper finds that the relationship went through four periods from 1894 to 1967.The core issue throughout each period is the independent status of Buganda.The separate identity of Buganda experienced three stages: establishment stage(1894-1900),consolidation stage(1900-1962)and disintegration stage(1962-1967).Among these interaction,Uganda has experienced the transformation from protectorate,colony,Federation to Republic,and Buganda has always been the kingdom until it was abolished.
