The Firearm Application In Qi Jiguang’s Military Activities

Since the Ming Dynasty was founded,wars have been going on in the southeast coasts and the northern border areas.And in order to stabilize the frontier,the Ming Dynasty strengthened the frontier defense and reformed the military.During the years of Jiajing and Wanli,Qi Jiguang had previously worked in Zhejiang to calm down the pirates,and later transferred to take charge of the military affairs of Jizhen.During the period of practice,Qi Jiguang took corresponding strategic and tactical arrangements according to the different geographical condition and the actual situation of the enemy.But no matter in the north or south,Qi Jiguang has always attached great importance to the firearms.He always emphasized the importance of firearms in his military works "Jixiaoxinshu" and "Lianbingshiji" in which he explained the types and use methods of firearms in detail,and at the same time,he also talked about the limitations of firearms in actual combat in many times.Starting from Qi Jiguang’s "Jixiaoxinshu" and "Lianbingshiji",and taking firearms as a starting point,the paper combs and inspects the equipment proportion and usage of firearms in the battles leaded by Qi Jiguang,and then analyzes the types and expected functions of the firearm application in detail.What’s more,the paper makes firearms` actual status and practical role in the combat system which created by Qi Jiguang,and further infers Qi Jiguang’s military thoughts.
