The important narrative strategy "unreliable narrative" proposed by American scholar Wayne Clayson Booth for the first time triggered a widespread research boom in the academic world and profoundly affected the study of novels in the new era of China. The novel writers represented by Yu Hua in the new period display various forms of unreliable narratives in their works. This article attempts to take Yu Hua’s novels as the research object, and systematically summarizes and discusses the unreliable narrative in the text. This article focuses on the "unreliable narrative" theory advocated by Wayne Clayson Booth and James Phelan, and follows the "implied author norm",combined with Yu Hua’s five novels "Shouting in the Drizzle" "Alive" "Xu Sanguan Selling Blood" "Brothers" and "Seventh Day" from the facts/errors on the axis/inadequate reporting,value/judgment on the axis/inadequate judgment,knowledge/perception on the axis/incomplete interpretation Text analysis at these three levels:In terms of aesthetic effects, based on the "irony effect" put forward by Booth, this article deeply explores the "distance effect" and "identity effect" brought by the "unreliable narration" in Yu Hua’s novels, that is,the "defamiliarization effect" and " Sympathy effect ".Based on the detailed reading of the text, the three reading effects are analyzed. Finally,it summarizes the value and inspiration of unreliable narrative in Yu Hua’s novels. The value orientation of the "implied author" in the work is a projection of Yu Hua’s own creative concept,so as to maximize the content of the novel and the characteristics of the characters close to reality, and encourage people to face positively, optimistically, and bravely when facing tragedies and sufferings For life, this also realizes the author’s creative intention. In addition,"unreliable narratives" are widely present in the novels of the new era,and they have considerable applicability, making positive contributions to the development of literary history. At the same time,"unreliable narrative" also has its own limitations, and it needs to be further improved and developed. The existence of unreliable narrative not only realizes the unity of the form and content of the novel in the aesthetic sense, but also fully mobilizes the enthusiasm, creativity and imagination of the reader, and greatly expands the space for text interpretation.
