Each ethnic group has its own unique cultural heritage, social background, and the resulting ways of thinking and values. Its economic behavior will reflect the cultural heritage, way of thinking and values of the culture to a certain extent. The common ethnic cultural origins can create a common sense of cultural identity, reduce barriers in communication, and enhance mutual trust. Therefore, having a common ethnic cultural origin can promote economic cooperation and exchanges between countries to a certain extent. This article aims to study the influence of the Dai-Thai homogenous ethnic culture on the investment activities of the Chinese banking industry in the establishment of branches in ASEAN,but considering that in open countries, cultural tolerance will be relatively high The common origins of the Dai-Thai ethnic culture are not necessary factors in an open country. Therefore,on the basis of studying the influence of the Dai-Thai homogenous ethnic culture on the investment activity of the Chinese banking industry in the establishment of branches in ASEAN The role of the host country’s financial market openness in the above-mentioned impact process will be considered. The Dai-Thai homologous ethnic culture mentioned in this article refers to the ethnic culture formed by the Dai-Tai people,a relatively large ethnic group distributed in southern China,Southeast Asia, and South Asia. The Dai and Thai people are mainly distributed in several countries and regions such as Yunnan,Vietnam,Laos,Myanmar and Thailand in China. The Dai-Tai people distributed in different countries have a common ethnic cultural origin. This common ethnic cultural origin not only formed the common culture of the Dai-Tai people, but also created the common psychological state and cultural identity of this group. We consider this common psychological state and cultural identity to be a homogenous ethnic culture of Dai and Thai. This article is based on the data of the number of branches of the five major commercial banks in the ASEAN ten countries established in 2006-2017 and the openness of the financial markets of the host country.ASEAN establishes relationships between branches. In the research process, this paper mainly conducts the research of this paper through literature research method, comparative analysis method and measurement model test method. The research results of this paper show that,to a certain extent, the Dai-Thai homogenous ethnic culture can indeed have a certain positive impact in the process of setting up branches in ASEAN of Chinese commercial banks. But as the host country’s financial market becomes more open, this effect becomes weaker.Using the proportion of the population of Buddhism who believes in Buddhism in the ten ASEAN countries as the national population as a proxy variable for the Dai-Thai homologous ethnic culture, the model is tested for robustness. The test results show that the empirical results in this article are robust.Based on the above analysis, from the perspective of Dai-Thai homologous ethnic culture,it provides targeted countermeasures and suggestions for the relevant behaviors of my country’s commercial banks in establishing branches in ASEAN,so as to promote the orderly development of the establishment of branches in ASEAN.
