In recent years,the researches on students’ cultural literacy have been paid more and more attention in the field of English teaching.However,the researches mostly focus on college students,and rarely involve high school students.Therefore,in order to more effectively improve the English cultural literacy level of high school students,it is necessary to understand the current status of high school students’ English cultural literacy.By investigating the current status of students’ English cultural literacy in Senior High Schools in Yulin’s Counties,this paper aims to discover the problems existing in the current status of students ’English cultural literacy,analyze the causes of the problems,and then put forward suggestions for improving the level of high school students’ English cultural literacy.Based on the Humanistic Theory,the research was conducted to investigate 195 students and 30 teachers from three senior high schools of Yulin’s counties,including Beiliu Middle School,Bobai Middle School and Luchuan Middle School through questionnaire.The teacher and student questionnaires respectively include three dimensions: cognitive dimension,attitude dimension and behavior orientation dimension.6 teachers and 6 students were randomly selected for interviews on the basis of the analysis of the questionnaire survey.This study mainly includes the following three questions:(1)What is the overall status of students’ cultural literacy in senior high schools in Yulin’s counties?(2)What is the current situation of thestudents’ English cultural literacy among different genders,and grades? Are there any differences among these groups?(3)What is the awareness of English teachers in senior high schools in Yulin’s counties about students’ English cultural literacy?The results show that:(1)In high school,cognition has less influence on students ’English cultural literacy,while attitude does more,and behavioral orientation does between cognitive and attitude.Therefore,the cultivation of high school students’ English cultural literacy still has Larger room for improvement;(2)The difference in genders in the English cultural literacy of students is that the female are better than the male;the difference in grades is that the literacy level of senior students is higher than that of students in the first and second grades.There is no significant difference between the English cultural literacy of freshman and sophomore;(3)Most teachers agree with the cultivation of English cultural literacy of students.The proportion of approval decreases with the increase of teaching age and increase with the increase of academic qualifications.According to the interview results,English teachers only have a positive attitude towards the cultural literacy of English subjects,but there are still some shortcomings.At present,cultural literacy cultivation in English teaching still has certain misunderstandings at the level of ideas and teaching methods;student life Environment and exam-oriented education are the main obstacles that restrict students’ English cultural literacy.Most teachers believe that the cultivation of students’ English cultural literacy should be improved from such aspects as cultural concepts,curriculum settings,teaching methods,and examination reform.The main reasons leading to the current problems of the current situation of English cultural literacy cultivation of high school students include: the negative transfer of mother tongue caused by differences in cultural background among students,weak pragmatic consciousness of students,and not enough positive attitude toward learning;in terms of teachers,insufficient understanding of cross-cultural teaching and their own cultural literacy Not enough,limited opportunities for cultural training,etc.In view of this,the author puts forward some suggestions from the teachers themselves,teaching methods,and school environment.Teachers shouldenhance cultural literacy themselves;teaching methods should be changed to a certain extent,and cultural teaching strategies can be adopted to cultivate students’ English cultural literacy;schools should optimize the campus English cultural environment to provide students with good English culture atmosphere.
