Adjustments In The Translation Of Natural Images In Children’s Literature From The Perspective Of The Construal Mechanism | | Posted on:2021-12-04 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Z M Bai | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306290461544 | Subject:Translation Master | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Children’s literature and its translation have always been important in translation studies.The description of natural images plays a significant part,presenting the delicate relationship between nature and human beings,and encouraging children to observe the nature.The development of cognitive linguistics and corpus linguistics provide new ways of explaining the translator’s behavior in translation.Moreover,the studies’ focus on guiding children’s cognition goes in accordance with the guiding function of children’s literature,which enables the findings of study to offer advice on the creation of children’s literature.This thesis aims to explain the translation features of natural scenes in children’s literature from the construal mechanism along with a bilingual corpus,and explores the causes.Through research,conclusions can be drawn: adjustments in the construal dimensions can provide reasonable explanation for differences between Chinese translation of natural images in children’s literature caused by using translation skills,and description of natural images in the English version.Adjustments from specificity are most striking in translation of natural scenes in children’s literature for the largest number;there is a small number of the adjustments in prominence and a large proportion of transfer from the salience of the vehicle to that of the tenor;adjustments in construal dimensions presented in translation are related to the translator’s concept of children’s literature and his translation guidelines in this literary type.Furthermore,adjustments in translation usually conform to characteristics of cognitive development of children.Finally,adjustments in construal show different ways of describing natural images in Chinese and English,which reflect differences in application ofnatural images in children’s literature affected by the disparity of Chinese philosophy and western philosophy to some degree and can possibly provide some advice for Chinese children’s literature entering the international market. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Anne of Green Gables, translation, construal mechanism, natural images, Ma Ainong | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
