Anne faces difficulties with her romantic fantasies, optimistic attitude andwins friendship of partners with sincere love.Her outspoken personality and yearning for abetter life affect everyone around her.Every readers are deeply attracted by Anne’s optimistic,cheerful and fearless personality. The analysis of literary geography on this novel will provide a new ideafor the readers to further understand it.The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part isthe introduction including Montgomery’s life, her literary achievements, the contents of text,domestic and foreign research situation and research significance. The second part is the mainpart of the thesis including the first chapter to the fifth chapter. The first chapter brieflyintroduces the literature geography criticism theory which includes research methods andresearch field, research status and research significance. The second chapter analyzes thenatural geographical environment of the Prince Edward Island (climate and phenology) andhuman environment (education and Religion) in the end of19th Century and the beginning ofthe20th century in order to further explore the impact of these literary geography elements onMontgomery and her works. The third chapter focuses on formation of unique geographicalgene on Montgomery and appearance of unique geographical gene in her works on the basisof "Literary Geography gene" concept put forward by Jianjun Zou.The fourth chapter aims toanalyze natural images including trees, birds, rivers and cultural images including farmhouses, churches and schools to further reveal the theme. The fifth chapter discusses the foundationand significance of geographical space construction works and analyzes the specificgeographical space of the growth of Anne. The last part is the conclusion that the significanceof literary geography research is explained by the summary of the whole thesis and theinterpretation of Anne of Green Gables from the literature geography point of view to open upa new perspective for textual research. |
