Brief Discussion Of "Qinhuai Eight Courtesan" In Context Of Literature

As one most important part of Chinese ancient culture,“Qinhuai Culture” stands for the outstanding Chinese ancient women.Created by a group of Qinhuai courtesan with talent,personality and morality,“Qinhuai Culture” closely relates with culture status of intellectual people at the transition time between Ming and Qing Dynasty.As women,these courtesans were born in a wrong time because of the loss of right to live on their own way.However,their indispensable role in the history of Chinese culture and literature makes them born in the “right” time,given the tight connection between their lives and politics,economics and culture in their time.Hence,it is necessary to study this special group of women,which appears in a specific time,in a deep manner.In the introduction of this thesis,we first clarify the origin of topic “Qinhuai Eight Courtesan” and discuss its current study status;then make conclusion about the novelty and study approaches of this thesis;and investigate the concept of “Qinhuai Eight Courtesan” and its referring range.In the first two chapters,I explored the “Eight Courtesan” from various aspects such as figure features,inner world and value view.According to this exploration,I further analyzed the relation and interdependence between them and other social classes,and properly evaluated their role in history and literature given their contribution to the later development of literature.In chapter three,I discussed their success and contributions in multiple types of Chinese art like music,chess,handing writing,painting and opera.In chapter four,with literature works,I reviewed the unique and tragic life of each courtesan and explored the underlying reasons such as times,social environment,love,family,physical and psychological factors.In the end,from the angle of history and humanities,I classified and discussed the influence of “Qinhuai Eight Courtesan” in the life of later generations.Hopefully,this study enlightens people the impact of “Qinhuai Eight Courtesan” in Chinese society and literature,and its novel meaning to understand the change of Chinese history and culture from Ming to Qing Dynasty.In this thesis,the main research approach is deductive reasoning,which analyzes the “Qinhuai Eight Courtesan” from different aspects with the given topics and statements.In addition,other approaches were applied in the thesis,such as interdisciplinary investigation,comparison and history-culture criticism.
