| Successful interpretation largely depends on the interpreter ’s adequate and effective preparations for the task.Preparations for interpretation can be defined in its narrow or broad sense in different contexts. This thesis illustrates the importance of preparations in its broad sense from the perspective of Gile’s Effort Model. The thesis then examines the author’s English-Chinese consecutive interpretation for the mock conference “How Coronavirus Is Affecting Refugees ” and endeavors to identify the interpreting problems in the translation such as misinterpretation, inappropriate wording,dis-fluency and logical errors. While the apparent reasons for the aforementioned problems are multi-faceted,insufficient preparation is considered the major underlying problem-trigger.In view of the aforesaid problems, relevant strategies are put forward. It is hoped that the analysis of the above typical problems and the exploration of the strategies could offer some insights that inspire further discussions about preparations needed for conference interpretation. |
