E-C Translation Of Agriculture Sci-tech Text From The Perspective Of Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory

Climate change is a major challenge facing all human beings.Even slight climate fluctuations could bring some negative effects on agricultural production,or even cause a food crisis.Climate change has already decreased global food production,and millions of people may face the risk of poverty and hunger in the future.China has been exploring the path of agricultural development all the time,and has made great achievements in agricultural science and technology,economy and society.However,the environmental and ecological problems caused by climate change are undoubtedly restricting agricultural production and bringing uncertainty to food security.Food security is related to people’s livelihoods and national development.In view of this,the author selects Food security and land use change under conditions of climatic variability: a multidimensional perspective which introduces various factors related to food security under climate change as source text,in order to help us deepen the understanding of how climate change affects food security.It can also provide some references for ensuring food security and promoting sustainable agricultural production in China.The author finished the translation under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory,then put forward some translation skills of agricultural science and technology texts on lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.On lexical level,conversion of parts of speech and proper meaning of words should be considered,such as noun-to-verb shift and adjective-to-noun shift;giving the exact meaning of a word in the context.Syntactic level should include passive-to-active,impersonal subject-to-personal subject,amplification,omission and division,such as the use of specified subject and adding a general subject;disclosing the underlying logic and semantics without adding or deleting the original meaning;breaking up the difficult units in a sentence into separate clauses.On discourse level,attention should be paid to the context.In addtion to the fluency of sentences,textual cohesion and coherence are of great significance.The author hopes to provide some reference for the translation of the same type of texts.
