| This paper is a translation practice report on the implications of the evolution of wallpaper for the future work of interior designers.In recent years,wallpaper has been widely used in hotels,offices,home and other interior decoration because of its rich patterns,short construction period and contrast effect on the indoor space atmosphere.Despite its rapid development,compared to foreign countries,the wallpaper still at a low coverage rate in China.The China Economic Research Institute pointed out in the Analysis of the Development Prospects of the Wallpaper Market in 2020 that the utilization rate of wallpaper in Europe and the United States is about 50%,Japan and South Korea is more than 98%,while the coverage rate of wallpaper in the domestic market is only about 15%.However,47%of modern decoration families expect to use wallpaper to decorate their walls,and the recognition of wallpaper is steadily increasing.Therefore,it is of positive significance for designers and wallpaper industry to explore the historical development and design concepts of foreign wallpaper.The text selected for this translation practice report is an article published by Dr.Lynda Skipper in the Journal of Design History.The article mainly traces back in detail the application and evolution of wallpaper in the classic British interior design building,the Renaissance St.Pancras Hotel in London from the 1870s to the 1980s.This report consists of four parts.The first part is a description of the translation task,which mainly introduces the background,features,and significance of the task.The second part is a description of the translation process,which mainly includes pre-translation preparation,the translation process,and quality control.The third part is an analysis of translation cases,which mainly analyzes the source text from the lexical,syntactic,and textual levels,as well as the application of translation methods under the guidance of "Skopos" theory.The fourth part is a summary of this translation practice.Translation is an interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary practice.It is expected that the detailed recording and analysis of the translation process will bring some practical significance to the development of interior designers and related soft decoration fields,and brings some inspirations to designers in interior design,especially in the use and selection of wallpaper. |
