A Report On The Consecutive Interpreting Of The Stage Light Design For The Show Of 2019 Eight Immortals Crossing The Sea In The Grand Theatre Of Starlight Island

The performance Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea,a Chinese mythological story,will be put on in the Grand Theater on the Starlight Island in 2019.In order to perform successfully,the organizer invited two Belgian technicians as the guider of stage lighting technology,who need the help of interpreters.This interpretation report is based on the author’s experience on providing consecutive interpretation for the stage lighting team of the performance.Due to the speciality and complicated operation on the lighting technology,solving technical communication problems under the premise of quality has become the concern of this interpretation.Based on the excerpted interpretation records and Functional Translation Theory,the author explored the interpreting problems on lexicon and syntax by using several interpretation methods including literal interpretation,addition,omission and conversion,and resolved cross-cultural communication conflicts.Through this interpretation practice,the author proposed some technical interpretation methods and understood the basic qualities that interpreters should possess,hoping to provide references for the future work.This report is divided into four chapters.Chapter One introduces the basic information of the task.Chapter Two describes the interpreting process from three aspects:preparation before interpretation,interpreting process and evaluation after interpretation.Chapter Three analyzes the interpreting problems encountered in the practice under the guidance of Functional Translation Theory.Chapter Four summarizes the interpreting practice and the author’s enlightenment for the future work.
