| With the deepening of globalization and the increasing cultural exchanges among countries around the world, more and more people attach importance to and take foreign literary works as the main way of cultural exchanges.Since reform and opening up,China has been committed to introducing foreign culture and enriching domestic cultural life,so the translation of foreign literary works is crucial. An excellent translation is conducive to promoting the “coming in” of foreign culture. As a best-selling book of Amazon,A Thousand Splendid Suns reflects the turbulent political and social background of Afghan in detail, and narrates the moving stories by authors’ exquisite narrative ability, which are full of vitality, reflect the society and the times, and are worth reading and spreading.Eco-translation ethics,as a specific theoretical tenet of a native translation theory,eco-translatology,puts forward four ethical principles for the research objects and research contents of eco-translatology,namely the principle of “balance and harmony”,the principle of “translator responsibility”,the principle of “multiple eco-integration”,and the principle of “symbiosis and diversity”,which provides a new perspective for the study of translation practice. This thesis takes the eco-translation ethics as its theoretical foundation, selecting Li Jihong’s and Li Jingyi’s translation of A Thousand Splendid Suns as its research objects as well as adopting the contrastive research method and the inductive analysis method to study the application of eco-translation ethics in the translations of two versions.Through the specific analysis, factors among translational eco-environment influencing the application of eco-translation ethics and how the two translators were normalized under the guidance of four eco-translation ethical principles are discussed in two translations of A Thousand Splendid Suns, then the literary translation mode from eco-translation ethics is constructed and the superiority of eco-translatology in the translation of foreign literary works is summarized. The major findings are as follows: To begin with, there are differences in the translator’s behaviors in the Chinese versions of A Thousand Splendid Suns.Under the principle of “balance and harmony”,translators from mainland and Taiwan have different degrees of adherence to the the source-text ecology and the target-text ecology in order to achieve eco-balance.Li Jihong tends to lean on the target-text ecology, while Li Jingyi tends to lean on the source-text ecology;under the principle of “translator responsibility”,translators from mainland and Taiwan have the responsibility to adopt different translation strategies to achieve different degrees of adaptation and selection.Li Jihong adopted domestication more, while Li Jingyi adopted foreignization more;under the principle of “multiple eco-integration”,the two translators have different ways to deal with details in terms of vocabulary and syntax at linguistic dimension, contextual effects at cultural dimension and intention at communication dimension;under the principle of “symbiosis and diversity”,Li Jihong’s and Li Jingyi’s translations can be analyzed from different translation techniques and methods under the guidance of respective translation strategies, which achieve the diversification of translation theories research and symbiosis of different versions.Afterwards, the literary-text translation mode is constructed based on the four principles of eco-translation ethics, which provides ideas for the follow-up research.Lastly,eco-translation ethics require translators’ dynamic adjustment between the source-text ecology and the target-text ecology, which has certain theoretical advantages. To sum up,eco-translation ethics is practical in literary translation, which provides a new research direction for translation studies in the field of foreign literature and promotes the continuous exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures and cross-strait subcultures. |
