| The cultivation of writing skill is mainly used to cultivate students’ ability to express themselves in English.In English learning,listening,speaking,reading and writing are interrelated and influenced by each other.Writing is not only one of the ways to review and consolidate vocabulary and grammar knowledge,but also one of the ways to promote the development of listening,speaking and reading skills.In reality,however,some teachers do not pay much attention to writing and they are not confident in teaching writing.Problems exist in English writing,such as students’ lack of interest,unsatisfying teaching outcomes,and delayed evaluation and feedback from teachers,and so on.So English writing teaching needs to be improved.In this study,the English Curriculum Standard for senior high schools(2017 version),also called the New Curriculum Standard,is the background of the research.At the same time,input hypothesis,output hypothesis and constructivism learning theory are the theoretical basis.The author investigates the current situation of English writing teaching in senior high school and takes Lingshi No.1 Senior High School as an example.The thesis answers three questions:(1)What is the current situation of English writing teaching in the school?(2)What are attitudes of the English teachers towards writing class?(3)How do these teachers deal with it in their daily teaching activities?This thesis mainly adopts a questionnaire,interviews and classroom observation as research instruments.The questionnaire mainly investigates the current situation of English writing teaching in the school from five aspects: the current situation of teaching writing,the main writing materials,the methods of teaching writing,writing evaluation and feedback and students’ feelings.At the same time,four English teachers were interviewed,and they were asked questions about their opinions on English writing teaching.Classroom observation was conducted to observe their practice in usual teaching activities under the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard on English writing teaching.It is found that there are some advantages in English writing teaching in Lingshi No.1Senior High School: firstly,except several teachers,most of the teachers attach great importance to English writing,and they also treat English writing seriously in their usual teaching activities and follow the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard on English writing.Secondly,teachers usually pay much attention to grammar and words,so students have a good grasp of grammar and words.Thirdly,group cooperation occupies an important and useful position in learning,which is a major feature of the school.Fourthly,it is beneficial to cultivate students’ good writing habits.However,some problems are also found after the research,firstly,the writing material is relatively uninteresting which is mainly from textbooks and reference books.Secondly,although teachers pay much attention to writing and treat it seriously,the teaching outcome of writing is not ideal.Thirdly,students are lack of systematic writing training.Teacher’s teaching is relatively loose and still stay at the surface level of teaching,and some teachers even don’t teach how to write,so that students’ writing ability is difficult to improve.Fourthly,the cultivation of students’ writing quality by teachers is not enough,and the cultivation of outlook on life,world outlook,values and social responsibility is lacking in normal teaching.Finally,the quality of teachers also affects the level of teaching.Some teachers are satisfied with the status quo and refuse to change.At the end of the thesis,in order to solve these problems,the author puts forward some suggestions from six aspects: firstly,teachers should improve their teaching approach constantly.Secondly,teachers should enrich the writing materials.Thirdly,teachers should strengthen the writing training of students.Fourthly,teachers should strengthen the cultivation of students’ English core quality.Fifthly,teachers should improve their own English writing ability.Finally,schools should provide more resources for the development of writing courses.The author hopes that these suggestions can help or inspire to improve the English writing teaching in Lingshi No.1 Senior High School. |
