Portfolio assessment is the mainstream of the current curriculum assessment reform in China,and an effective way to improve the current status of English writing teaching.In the current English teaching,teacher affected by the pressure of the exams,there are problems with teaching concepts on writing,writing score as the only way to assess students’ writing ability.In order to improve the limitations in English writing teaching,in accordance with the requirements of The New English Curriculum Standard(2011),the formative assessment should be mainly used in the teaching process to assess students’ performance and progress.Therefore,the author pays attention to the students’ writing process through portfolio assessment,which can more effectively promote students’ development in English writing.In order to study the feasibility of portfolio assessment in junior high school English writing teaching,the author conducted a three-month empirical study in the third grade of Datong Experimental Middle School.The specific research questions are as follows:(1)How does portfolio assessment affect students’ English writing abilities?(2)What does portfolio assessment affect students’ interest and attitude in English writing?(3)What does portfolio assessment affect students’ English writing skills?(4)How does portfolio assessment affect students of different writing levels? Research subjects selected Class 65 as experimental classes and applied portfolio assessment,and Class 66 as control classes and applied summative assessment.Three research instruments were used for the experiment:questionnaires,tests,and interviews.Through questionnaires,the impact of portfolio assessment on students’ English writing interest and attitude were researched,and the role of portfolio assessment in English writing skills was researched.Through a writing test,the impact of portfolio assessment on students’ English writing abilities was researched.Through the interview,the application effect of portfolio assessment in junior high school English writing teaching was researched,and the impact of portfolio assessment on students of different writing levels.Through the analysis of experimental data,it is found that the application of portfolio assessment in English writing teaching,the writing abilities of the students have improved,the writing scores of students at low level and middle level have significantly improved,the high level students have not improved their scores significantly;the students’ interest has been stimulated in English writing;the students’ attitude has been more positive in writing;in terms of writing skills,high level students mainly gain the authenticity of emotional expression and the innovation of the writing viewpoint,and the logical expression is more accurate;the writing progress of middle level students is mainly reflected in the rationality of logical expressions and the accuracy of words and phrases,which can effectively avoid the occurrence of language errors;low level students pay more attention to the correctness of words and grammar,so as to make progress in English writing.Therefore,it summarizes the enlightenment and shortcomings of the research,and provides suggestions for future teaching.
