The source text of this translation practice is excerpted from a children’s fiction Red Fox written by Frances Greenslade,a Canadian writer. This fiction tells an adventure of a 13-year-old girl called Francie and her parents who were caught in the wilderness due to GPS navigation errors during a family outing.Red Fox Road is a children’s adventure with great children’s interest and literariness. In this fiction,it contains a variety of colloquial expressions and beautiful descriptions of the environment. In translation, the translator should fully consider the factors of the source text and the reader so that the translation is faithful to the source text, but also meets the reception, understanding and aesthetic ability of children readers.Based on this, the translator chooses Translator Behavior Criticism to guide her translation practice.Translator Behavior Criticism is an original theory put forward by Chinese scholar Professor Zhou Lingshun. The theory takes translators’ behaviors as the starting point of criticism, emphasizes the subjectivity of the translators, and dynamically evaluates the translators’ behaviors from two levels of "intra-translation" and "extra-translation".In amplification,Translator Behavior Criticism also focuses on the rationality of the translators’behaviors, that is,the translators can seek truth to the source text and attain utility of the society on the basis of rationality.Based on the principles of "truth-seeking" and"utility-attaining" from the perspective of Translator Behavior Criticism, this translation practice report analyzes and summarizes the translation skills to show the children’s interest, readability and literariness of Red Fox Road translation at the lexical level, the syntactic level and rhetorical level.Firstly,at the lexical level, the translator uses modal particles, interjections, onomatopoeia, reduplicated words,four-character words and annotation on culture-loaded words.Secondly,at the syntactic level, the translator adopts some translation skills, such as amplification, adjustment of sentence order, and division of long and complex sentences. Finally,at the rhetorical level, the translator uses personification and simile. In addition,"Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining"Evaluative Model of Continuum is also used to guide the analysis of this translation practice,so as to make the translation conform to the reasonable degree between "truth-seeking" and "utility-attaining".Through this translation practice, the translator finds that Translator Behavior Criticism is suitable for guiding this translation practice.Guided by the principles of "truth-seeking"and "utility-attaining",the translator uses different translation skills to translate the fiction.By using these translation skills, the translator tries to achieve a balance between"truth-seeking" and "utility-attaining".In addition, through the investigation of the"Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining" Evaluative Model of Continuum, the translator finds that the translator’s behaviors sometimes are inclined to"truth-seeking",sometimes are inclined to "utility-attaining",and sometimes achieve high utility-attaining in meeting children’s needs on the basis of capturing the faithfulness in the original content, which makes the translation have high degree of rationality. In the whole translation process, the translator ’s behaviors are in the gradient states.Through this practice and analysis, the translator hopes to provide some new theoretical thinking and application for those who will translate children’s literary works in the future.
