In the 21st century,China’s coal industry is booming,and the domestic coal machinery industry is more and more closely related to the international coal market.The exchanges between countries and international trade are also increasingly close,in which the trade of mechanical equipment and electronic products occupies an extremely important position.In the process of exporting and introducing machinery and equipment,if technicians cannot understand the content of the machinery and equipment manuals,they will not be able to operate the machinery and equipment correctly.Only when technicians truly understand the functions of machinery and equipment can they operate accurately.This is why the translation of product specifications is becoming increasingly important.This project is a Chinese to English translation of the first eight chapters of the“Manual of MG250/601-QWD AC Electric Traction Coal Miner Product”,which is a technical text.So it has some of the main features of technical texts,for example:rigorous logic,simple expressions,accurate words,objective content and so on.The translator uses Newmark’s theory of text type as a support,combining with actual translation practice to explain the stylistic features that translators should pay attention to when applying the theory of text type to the Chinese to English translation of product manuals in the process of translation practice.At the same time,the translator is guided by the principle of purpose,the principle of coherence and the principle of fidelity to correctly handle the translation of the text of the manual,and uses translation techniques such as amplification,omission,division and combination to correctly handle the translation of the text of the manual in relation to the principles of operation.To ensure that the translation of the product instruction manual is linguistically standardized,objective,and with strong professionalism,precision and logic.
