English homework plays an essential role in high school English.Good English homework can help students consolidate their knowledge and improve their comprehensive English ability.However,today’s English teachers pay more attention to classroom teaching and students’ English scores but less attention to English homework design.The form of English homework is often relatively simple and mechanical,which has a bad impact on students’ English learning.Therefore,it is of great practical and theoretical significance to explore English homework design which can benefit English teachers,students,and English teaching.The theory of multiple intelligences has been published by Howard Gardner.The theory holds that everyone possesses eight intelligences,and everyone possesses his own advantageous intelligences and weak intelligences.Howard Gardner has stressed the need to respect the differences between personal intelligences,strengthen an individual’s superior intelligences,and develop an individual’s weak intelligences.The author has applied multiple intelligences theory to English homework design in this dissertation.Based on the theory of multiple intelligences,questionnaires,and student interviews have been used by the author to find out the problems of English homework design in the school where the author has worked as an assistant teacher.The author has applied the multiple intelligences theory to English homework design.Then the author has analyzed the effects on students.The research results show that there are some problems in the senior high school English homework design.Most of the students are bored with the current English homework.The types of English homework are monotonous,and the structure is unreasonable.So English homework plays little part in students’ learning.The author has suggested that English teachers may change their minds when designing English homework in the future.English teachers can combine multiple intelligences theory,teaching contents and teaching objectives,students’ characteristics,students’ real life,and other aspects to design diversified English homework.English homework design based on multiple intelligences theory can help teachers to increase students’ enthusiasm in English learning.Besides,English homework design based on multiple intelligences theory can also provide more opportunities for students to cooperate and communicate with others and students can solve problems in different ways.
