Many teachers have done research on the design of homework, which have shown that the conventional homework cannot meet the requirements of the new curriculum standard.Inspired by MI(multiple intelligences)theory, the author proposes three research questions: 1)What is the current situation of conventional English homework design in middle school? 2)Are there positive effects on students’ MI development of the renovated homework based on MI theory? 3)What is the feedback of the students towards the renovated homework based on MI theory? This thesis is a case study, and the author selects 112 students from Grade 7 in a middle school in Xi’an as the research participants, and uses questionnaire, interview and case analysis to study the above issues. From the perspective of MI theory, the author analyzes the main problems in current design of English homework, and then designs four kinds of renovated homework, and puts them into practice according to the existing problems and development level of students’ multiple intelligences, then chooses some homework of different students with different levels as the analysis cases,in order to discuss the impacts on students’ multiple intelligence development and their English learning.Through the results of MI Checklist and Homework Questionnaire before and after and interviews of three different students with different English levels, the renovated homework is good for the improvement of students’ multiple intelligences towards relevant requirements of new curriculum standard. Therefore, the future teaching should focus on the cultivation of students’ multiple intelligences, especially homework design, rather than just focus on one or a few intelligences.
