Energy is a material basis necessary for a country’s economic development,involving production,life and other aspects,thus playing an important role.Affected by compound factors,the energy supply faces great challenges,and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a series of turmoil,which has an impact on all sectors including energy.Therefore,the realization of effective energy transition has attracted more and more attention from all countries.The source text of this report is Fostering Effective Transition(2020 Edition)which belongs to an informative text,whose main task is to convey the facts,information,ideas,etc.Therefore,clear and accurate language should be used in the translation.In addition,explicitation can be adopted if necessary based on the context.The report mainly discusses explicitation in the translation practice.This report is composed of five parts.The first part introduces the background,purpose and significance of the translation task.The second part describes the content of the target text and target readers.The third part elaborates the translation process from three aspects,including pre-translation preparation,translation stage and quality assurance.The fourth part firstly introduces the theory of explicitation,then analyzes and discusses specific cases from two aspects: explicitation of textual function and explicitation of ideational function.In terms of explicitation of textual function,conjunctions are added to clarify the logical relationship,information structure is reconstructed to conform to the expression habit of Chinese and the reference relationship is explicated to achieve the discourse cohesion.In terms of explicitation of ideational function,specific meanings of words in the context are clarified and annotations to words with cultural information are added to enhance the readability.In the final part,the difficulties encountered in the translation practice,gains,solutions to the translation problems and further efforts to be made are summarized.It is pointed out that explicitation,as a guiding principle in the translation is of great significance to improve the readability and clarity of the target text.
