| In recent years,the relationship of China and Malaysia has developed steadily.With the advance of “the Belt and Road” policy,the Chinese language education in Malaysia is booming.As of December 2020,Malaysia has launched five Confucius Institutes across the country which need more volunteer Chinese teachers.They are faced with the pressure of cross-cultural adaptation and teaching adaptation after going to Malaysia.Their adaptability is of great practical significance for the healthy development of Chinese language education in Malaysia.This paper selected 61 volunteers who teach in Malaysia and 20 volunteers who teach online.It mainly based on questionnaires and interviews,through quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,used SPSS software,hope to make an objective and comprehensive analysis of the adaptability of volunteer Chinese teachers to Malaysia.The research started from two dimensions which are cross-cultural adaptability and teaching adaptability.According to the cross-cultural theory and specific teaching modes,cross-cultural adaptation was divided into psychological adaptation and social and cultural adaptation,teaching adaptation was divided into offline teaching adaptation and online teaching adaptation.The paper specifically demonstrated the adaptation status and the projects that have encountered difficulties in adaptation.Through linear regression analysis and independent sample t-test,it was concluded that the volunteer’s age,time on duty,and teaching experience had a significant impact on adaptability.Through interviews,it was concluded that the objective factors affecting adaptability include insufficient social support,differences in Chinese and Malaysian cultures,and lack of teaching resources.According to the adaptability issues of volunteers,this research cut into from a micro perspective,and put forward practical suggestions for improving the adaptability.At the cross-cultural level,volunteers should maintain an objective psychological expectation,make psychological construction and adjustment from cognition,emotion,and behavior,improve self-efficacy,know more about Malaysia,find a good "leader",and strengthen social integration.At the teaching level,volunteers should be good at acquiring digital information,strengthening the ability to use traditional teaching media,optimizing the class structure,enhancing interaction,knowing the teaching platform better,and doing follow-up and guidance after class. |
