This report is based on the author’s E-C SI of the online lecture “Micro-level Language Policy and Planning: Levels,Agency, and Structure” given by Anthony J.Liddicoat,a professor at the University of Warwick. In the E-C SI,the author finds that overlong EVS problem can result in the problem of wordiness of target language, incoherence of target language and information loss.Through the analysis of typical examples, three causes for these problems are discovered, including inappropriate word choice in interpreting, redundancy of sentence structure in TL text, and redundancy of sentence information in SL text.Correspondingly, based on the compression strategy, the author puts forward some feasible coping strategies to these problems, including compression of words, compression of sentence structure and compression of sentence information. This report is a summary of the author’s E-C SI,aiming to explore the shortcomings of this interpreting practice and its enlightenment to future interpreting practice.Through personal interpreting practice, the author has a deeper understanding of on-site interpreting activities while testing her own abilities. It is hoped that coping strategies to the problems caused by overlong EVS in this report can provide helpful references for interpreting learners. It is also hoped that the interpreting materials in this report can provide references for interpreters engaged in sociolinguistics.
