Nowadays,reading materials in textbook are not enough for students to practice reading and many teachers use them as intensive reading,which means they pay attention to the words meanings,sentences structures and grammar teaching,instead of the cultivating the reading skills.When students read the difficult passages,some of them can’t analyze each word and understand the passage,which leads to polarization in reading and some of them will lose interests and confidence.In order to solve these problems,based on the comprehensive input theory,optimization theory of teaching process,mastery learning theory and zone of proximal development theory,the researcher explores stratified reading teaching to fit students of different levels.This thesis aims to explore the following three questions: first,how does stratified reading influence students’ English reading interest? Second,how does stratified reading influence students’ use English reading strategies? Third,how does stratified reading influence students’ English reading scores? In order to solve the three questions,Two parallel classes(Class 6 and Class 8)of junior two in the city of Yantai,Shandong Province,a total of 98 participants,are chosen as the research participants.The researcher uses questionnaire and interview to get the knowledge of the change of students’ English reading interest and use of strategies.In the experiment,the researcher collected the data of English reading scores before and after the experiment and questionnaires and analyzed the data to explore the change of students’ English reading scores.The results indicated that stratified reading can improve students’ English reading interest,students’ English reading strategies and students’ English reading scores.In this study,stratified teaching was applied to junior high school English reading,and the results of the study have positive significance to English reading teaching.Some suggestions for stratified teaching in the future are provided at the end of the paper.In the stratified English reading teaching,teachers should know the students’ ability and interest,and assign the appropriate difficulty tasks for them.
