| English reading plays an important role in the process of English language learning.Effective teaching methods can promote students’ learning of English reading.The English Curriculum Standard emphases that English teaching should be oriented to all students and reflect the idea of student-centered.However,the class teaching system is dominated by teachers and ignores the cultivation of students’ reading interest,reading autonomy and reading performance.The stratified teaching method is mainly based on Mastery Learning Theory,Zone of Proximal Development and Optimization of Teaching Process Theory.According to students’ individual differences,it sets different levels of teaching objectives,designs different levels of teaching activities,arranges different levels of exercises and assignments,and evaluates students based on different criteria,so as to improve students’ learning interest,learning autonomy and learning performance.Therefore,this study applies the stratified teaching method to English reading teaching in junior high school aiming at improving students’ reading interest,reading autonomy and reading performance.This study mainly puts forward the following three research questions:Question 1: Can stratified teaching method improve students’ reading interest?Question 2: Can stratified teaching method improve students’ reading autonomy?Question 3: Can stratified teaching method improve students’ reading performance?This study took two parallel classes in Grade seven as the research subjects.The Class one was an experimental class,which adopted stratified teaching method.The Class four was the control class,which adopted the class teaching system.The experimental period was 15 weeks.In order to investigate the influence of stratified teaching method on students’ reading interest,reading autonomy and reading performance,this study used three research instruments:questionnaires,tests and interviews.Before and after the experiment,the students in the experimental class and the control class were investigated and tested.At the same time,the students in the experimental class were interviewed after the experiment.Finally,the experimental data were collected and analyzed.The results show that the application of stratified teaching method to English reading teaching in junior high school is of positive significance.Under the guidance of stratified teaching method,students’ reading interest,reading autonomy and reading performance have been improved to a certain extent.In addition,this study also summarizes the limitations and implications and puts forward some suggestions for further research,aiming to better apply the stratified teaching method to English reading teaching in junior high school. |
