world.Dunhuang culture is an outstanding representative of the excellent history and culture of the Chinese nation,and also an oriental model of mutual learning and pluralistic integration of human civilization with world significance.In 2013,"the belt and road initiative" pushed the Millennium City,Dunhuang,into the public view and set off a new round of "Dunhuang fever" in the whole country.On August 2019,Xi Jinping inspected the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang,emphasized that The Dunhuang culture is the result of the long exchange of Chinese civilization with all kinds of civilizations.We should tell the story of Dunhuang well and spread the voice of China,promote the cultural research of Dunhuang,build "the belt and road initiative",enhance cultural exchanges with the countries along the border,and enhance the common aspiration of the people.In this context,Dunhuang documentaries need to shoulder the responsibility of vanguard,redevelop Dunhuang culture,re narrate along the Silk Road,let more people establish emotional links with Dunhuang,and build a rainbow bridge of friendly communication between different nationalities,countries and civilizations.Dunhuang documentary takes the history and culture of Dunhuang as the core support.It shows the natural landscape,historical sites and cultural phenomena of Dunhuang area for the audience,excavates the humanistic spirit,values and philosophical ideas contained in Dunhuang culture,and radiates the open values from Dunhuang to the whole Hexi Corridor and other countries along the silk road Awaken the audience’s cultural memory,thus become an important force to promote the inheritance and development of excellent traditional culture,enhance national cultural identity,and enhance the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation.Meanwhile,one belt,one road,is to help Dunhuang to enhance its international awareness.The Dunhuang documentary is equally important for the friendly exchanges between the people of the “the Belt and Road”,the deepening of the exchanges and cooperation between the people in the region,and the friendly dialogue between different civilizations.This paper focuses on the "narrative research of Dunhuang documentary".Guided by the relevant theories of narratology,communication and film and television,using the methods of literature analysis,case study and interview,on the basis of observing and studying a large number of excellent documentaries,The relationship between documentary and social development,social ideology and social culture structure is analyzed.The narrative value,narrative theme,narrative method and narrative language of Dunhuang documentary are analyzed.The development strategy of Dunhuang documentary is discussed under the background of "the belt and road initiative".The aim is to inject fresh blood into the documentary creation and theoretical research of the documentary on the theme of Dunhuang,and arouse people’s attention to the documentary film in the theme of the film.It is of great significance.The first chapter traces the origin of the documentary images in the contemporary Dunhuang Cultural Communication.First of all,a brief overview of Dunhuang culture and cultural relics protection status,sort out the Dunhuang culture based on the creation of dance drama,poetry,novels and other forms of Dunhuang Literature and art works.Secondly,by tracing the development of historical and cultural documentaries,this paper defines and classifies the concept of Dunhuang documentaries,and considers the close relationship between documentaries and social development and evolution,social ideology.In the time dimension,the development of Dunhuang documentaries in China can be divided into three stages: initial stage,development stage and mature stage.Finally,it discusses the relevant theories which have guiding significance for the narrative research of Dunhuang documentary.The second chapter focuses on the narrative value of Dunhuang documentary.In the narrative process,Dunhuang documentary takes history as the basis,culture as the connotation and characters as the core.It makes an in-depth investigation and insight into the culture,nature,history and society of Dunhuang and presents a unique value significance.In terms of the value of historical materials,Dunhuang documentaries rely on rich and detailed historical materials to explore the historical truth and enhance historical identity.At the same time,they freeze the real moments in the images to preserve the historical memory for the audience.In the aspect of cultural value,Dunhuang documentary takes the profound Dunhuang culture as its core,which can cure the profound cultural power,thus becoming an important force to promote the inheritance narrative theme of Dunhuang documentary.It mainly analyzes the presentation of theme content and the expression of theme style.The theme orientation of Dunhuang documentary transcends three dimensions of time and space: history,reality and future.It presents four themes: looking back and Reflection on Dunhuang history,protection and inheritance of Dunhuang culture,continuation and promotion of Silk Road spirit,and exploration and thinking of Buddhist art.On the whole,its theme content shows distinct characteristics,that is,the aesthetic style full of material sorrow temperament,the humanistic care linked with individual destiny,the spiritual transmission keeping up with the pace of the times,and the philosophical thinking infiltrating human nature.The fourth chapter makes an in-depth study of the narrative techniques of Dunhuang documentary.Mainly from the macro and micro interlaced integration of narrative perspective,parallel narrative structure and storytelling narrative skills three aspects of in-depth elaboration.In terms of narrative perspective,Dunhuang documentaries spread the grand narrative through omniscient perspective,shared cultural memory,used limited perspective to convey micro emotions,aroused audience resonance,maximized the narrative function of different perspectives,and made the information rich and realistic.In the aspect of narrative structure,it mainly "high and low cultural context" and "the other",this chapter studies the effective strategies of cross-cultural dialogue and communication of Dunhuang documentary.On the one hand,we should establish the thinking mode of cross-cultural and cross context communication,and seek the possibility of cross-cultural dialogue in the general appeal.That is to sort out and excavate the individual emotions with human resonance in Dunhuang stories,pay attention to the mainstream values with commensurability in Dunhuang culture,and integrate them with the universal demands of human beings in the world.Only in this way can we break through the barriers of "self" and "other",achieve better cross-cultural dialogue,and play its role in enhancing the international discourse power.On the other hand,in the international perspective to find the focus of cross-cultural communication.That is to break through the limitations of the topic selection,connect the ancient and modern,open up China and foreign countries,excavate new themes and contents,show the audience the personalized,comprehensive and three-dimensional image of Dunhuang,expand the channels of communication,build a bridge of communication with domestic and foreign audiences,and give play to the "diplomatic potential" of Dunhuang culture.This paper takes nearly 20 Dunhuang documentaries broadcast since 1954 as the main research object,discusses their unique narrative charm,and puts forward some suggestions for the future development of the documentaries.On the one hand one belt,one road to the topic,provides a new perspective and method for the interpretation and creation of documentary films in Dunhuang.It provides valuable reference and reference for the creation of other documentary films on historical and cultural subjects;on the other hand,it explores the important role of documentaries in serving the "the belt and road initiative",explores new ways to build national cultural soft power,and expands
