A Study Of The Semantic Functions And Semantic Maps Of "XingZou" Verbs

This article takes “xingzou” verbs as the research object,mainly including “xing”“zou” “running” “ben” “bu” “qu” in Chinese and “xingzou” verbs of English、Korean、Japanese and Thai.Summarizing their semantic functions in ancient Chinese、modern Chinese 、 modern Chinese dialects and other languages.Constructing their conceptual space and drawing their semantic maps.The paper contains five parts.Firstly,the research purpose and significance of the thesis were described systematically and specifically.Determining the research object and research scope,collating and commenting on the current research situation of semantic maps and“xingzou”verbs.Finally,introducing the methods and corpus sources of the paper.The second part is the semantic function of the “xingzou” verbs in ancient Chinese.According to the interpretations of “xing” “zou” “running” “ben” “bu”“qu” in Chinese Dictionary.basing on the corpus and following the regular pattern of semantic evolution,summarizing the semantic function of“xingzou”verbs.clarifing the extension relationship between each words and drawing the map of the meaning extension.The third part is the semantic function of the “xingzou”verbs in modern Chinese.According to the interpretations of “xing”“zou” “running”“ben”“bu”“qu” in Modern Chinese Dictionary and Eight-Hundred Words of Modern Chinese.Basing on modern Chinese corpus,suming up the semantic functions of “xingzou” verbs in modern Chinese.Clarifing the extension relationship between various semantics,and drawing the map of the meaning extension.The fourth part firstly analyzes the semantic function of “xingzou” verbs in modern Chinese dialects;Secondly,according to the interpretation of “xingzou” verbs in authoritative Chinese-foreign dictionaries,we summarize the semantics of “xingzou”verbs in four foreign languages: English、Japanese、Thai and Korean;Then,according to the semantic function,we construct the conceptual space of “xingzou” verbs;Finally,we cut out the semantic maps of “xingzou” verbs in ancient Chinese、modern Chinese、modern Chinese dialects and other languages.In the end,the viewpoint and conclusion of the paper are determinded distinctly.we also indicate the shortcoming of the paper finally.
