| Fast-tempo life has been the striking feature of modern society nowadays. However, one of the results of such fast tempo in the field of education is that some teachers become more impatient and eager to cultivate talents quickly. It’s well known that more haste less speed.Educators should obey the law of education and cultivate the talents. The source text is Slow Teaching written by Jamie Thom,a Scottish writer, which introduces the philosophical theory of education, teaching environment, and specific practice of teaching separately. The book emphasizes that the process of education is quiet and silent. It’s unfair to evaluate teachers by the number of certifications, and good education shouldn’t be measured by enrolment rating. Thus, the author expects that the target readers may calm down to realize the essence of education and improve the teaching level after understanding the connotation of slow teaching.Guided by Functional Equivalence Theory, the author reflects the translation of the first five chapters of the book. It’s difficult for the author to fully convey both content and form of the source text due to some terms, idioms, symbol words, and wisdom words are frequently used by the author,so some translation strategies have been adopted such as domestication and foreignization, and some translation methods have been used such as addition, division and repetition under the premise of ensuring the source text information, achieving the lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence between the translation and source text as much as possible. In addition, the author researches the phenomena of anaphora and epistrophe and tries to use repetition to translate the text. The significance of this translation practice is to introduce new teaching ideas and provide references to the translation of the educational text, which is expected to provide references for future translators. |
