A Report On The Translation Of A Most Beautiful Thing (Excerpt) Under The Guidance Of Semantic And Communicative Translation

This report is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The translation task is a narrative non-fiction novel.Based on the E-C translation of A Most Beautiful Thing,the translator uses Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation to discuss and analyze the problems and difficulties encountered in the translation process,and propose corresponding solutions.This report is composed of five parts:task description,translation process,literature review,case analysis and conclusion.The translator first introduces the task of translation,the content and significance of the original text.Next,the translator describes the collection of background information in preparation for translation,the translation of texts,and the proofreading work after translation.In the literature review,the translator briefly introduces the research results of semantic translation,communicative translation and narrative nonfiction.In case analysis,the translator uses Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theory to guide the translation of narrative non-fiction texts by studying examples in translation practice,from word,syntactic,and the textual level.At the word level,the methods of literal translation,amplification,and negation are mainly used to restore the meaning of words and reflect the hidden meaning behind the.words.At the sentences level,the translator mainly uses sequential translation,reverse translation,to retain the original sentence structure,and make the target language readers can understand and accept the translated text.In terms of passive voice,the translator analyzes it from two aspects:retain the passive voice and transforms the passive into the active to solve the problems encountered in translation.At the text level,the translator mainly analyzes the translation problems in the perspective of coherence and cohesion Finally,the translator summarizes this translation practice.
