A Report On E-C Translation Of HOT Skills (Chapters7-8) With The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

With the development of educational globalization,worldwide exchange in education is getting increasingly frequent.Therefore,the translation of educational texts plays a vital role in the promotion of educational ideas and teaching approaches around the world.Put forward by Reiss(1971),Skopos Theory argues that a translational action is determined by its intention,that is,the source text should be translated functionally.Moreover,this theory focuses upon the smoothness and coherence of translation and contends that a translation should be faithful to the source text provided that both its function and readability are achieved.Guided by Skopos Theory,the author of the report undertook the English-Chinese translation of Chapters 7-8 of HOT Skills,a task entrusted by the Education Office of Meigui Town in Pinyin County.As a summary of and a reflection on the task,this report consists of six chapters.Chapter One introduces the background and significance of the task and the structure of the report.As an overview of the source text,Chapter Two focuses upon its author,main ideas,and linguistic features.Chapter Three elaborates the translation process,including pre-translation preparations,while-translation difficulties and post-translation editings.As the theoretical underpinning of the report,Chapter Four is devoted to an overview of Skopos Theory and its applicability to the translation task.Being the main body of the report,Chapter Five presents the translation strategies on the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.As the summary of the report,Chapter Six takes stock of the translation strategies adopted in the task and makes reflections on the author’s personal pains and gains from it.
