Writing is a concrete manifestation of learners’ comprehensive language ability.It is an important skill of English learning.It also reflects students’ mastery and use of English.It is well known that writing has always been a major and difficult point in English teaching.High school students will encounter various problems in the process of learning English because of the difference between English and Chinese.There are many problems in writing,and the writing process is not smooth enough.Writing ability is extremely important.Therefore,errors in high school students’ English writing should be studied to improve students’ English.This study takes two classes of students in Yuhai Hui Senior high School as examples.It aims to analyze the mistakes in high school students’ English composition and propose corresponding strategies to improve high school students’ English writing.This research first summarizes the related research of foreign and domestic scholars based on error analysis theory,defines the concept of error,and analyzes the current research status of domestic error analysis theory in English writing teaching.Based on this,the following questions come up:1)What are the main types of high-frequency errors in high school students’ English writing?2)What are the main methods to correct these errors?3)Can the use of error analysis really improve students’ English writing ability effectively?Based on error analysis,questionnaire survey,data analysis and interview results,the author has attributed student errors to three categories:ontological errors,text errors and discourse errors.It also analyzes the causes of errors in terms of teachers’ teaching methods,writing evaluation methods,students’ writing attitudes,interlingual transfer,and intralingual transfer,and adopts the strategy of students’ self-correction and peer evaluation to deal with the problems in teaching practise.Finally,fully apply the error analysis theory to the teaching practice of high school English writing,the author give suggestions for high school English writing teaching in four aspects:to encourage students to accumulate vocabulary and sentences,to adopt multiple methods of teaching and evaluation in writing teaching,to cultivate students’ writing habits and to strengthen the teaching of vocabulary and grammar knowledge.
