Belfast Tourism Showcase was held on 13rd,September,2018 in Shenyang to expand the tourism cooperation between Belfast and Shenyang. The author was assigned to offer consecutive interpreting service during the speeches of Ms Dierdry Hargey,Lord Mayor of Belfast,Mr Tim Losty, the Minister Counselor of Northern Ireland Bureau Beijing Office,Mr Peng Zhao wen,Deputy Mayor of Shenyang Municipal Government, and Mr Gerry Lennon,Chief Executive of Visit Belfast. These four speeches share the common features of well-organized structures and clear points.Though the author was not given any speech draft beforehand, she performed calmly on the scene and completed the task successfully by applying de-verbalization in the interpreting process. The Interpretive Theory holds that interpreters should interpret the information and sense of the source text, rather than the language form. The interpreting activity goes through a process of comprehension,de-verbalization and expression,of which de-verbalization is the core aspect. As English and Chinese differ at structure, grammar and cultural connotations etc.,the application of de-verbalization is conducive to conveying the intended message of the source language in a more idiomatic, accurate and expressive manner.Based on the interpreting experience, the author analyzed the application of de-verbalization in fulfilling this consecutive interpreting task, including reformulation, elaboration, conversion and integration. Also, the significance of applying de-verbalization is concluded to provide an inspiration for the author to perfect her interpreting performance, for instance, facilitating the understanding of the source language, increasing the fluency of the output and promoting an optimized communicative effect.Accordingly, more practices should be made on improving the language proficiency and enhance the ability of understanding.
