| When outsiders look at Hong Kong literature, they usually simplify Hong Kong literature into popular mass literature with preconceptions.Scholars of Chinese mainland often neglect the value of Hong Kong local literature in observing ordinary things due to their historical grand narrative. Therefore,Hong Kong is often described as a "cultural desert".Martial arts novels, romance novels and consumerism culture are regarded as labels of Hong Kong literature. In order to resist this "labeling",local writer Ye Si(Liang Bingjun)of Hong Kong started his Hong Kong writing. In the study of Ye Si’s works, academic community pay more attention to his achievements in poetic aspects, but his special value and important influence in the Hong Kong literature history are often ignored. The characteristic of Ye Si’s novels is to pay attention to the local reality of Hong Kong and consciously think about Hong Kong’s cultural identity and development direction,so as to explore the way and direction of cultural exchange in the process of writing the Hong Kong he knows. The "cultural perception" characteristic of his novels points to this. This article attempts to solve the problem of how writer Ye Si clarifies Hong Kong’s cultural identity and writes about Hong Kong’s cultural outlook in his novels. This article combines Hong Kong’s nativity with modern novel techniques, trying to reveal why the presentation of this "cultural perception" belongs to Hong Kong’s nativity, how it inspires readers’ cultural thinking, and provides what kind of possibilities for writing Hong Kong culture. This article is divided into three chapters:The first chapter explores the cultural factors behind the "cultural perception" inYe Si’s novels, namely the necessity and possibility of the formation of "cultural perception".Based on the analysis of the novel text,it is found that the "Hong Kong" in Ye Si’s novels originates from three aspects: first, the marginal perspective brought by the historical identity of Hong Kong’s "dual otherness" coincides with the identity anxiety of Hong Kong people before the handover, which makes Ye Si stand on the edge and face up to the influence of Chinese tradition and modern western culture on Hong Kong culture, calling for the development of local cultural individuality based on national cultural tradition.Second, the writer’s traveling experience and academic vision enable the writer to have multiple perspectives, mainly through traveling themes,multi-theme narrative perspectives and uncertainty of narrative objects,to contrast Hong Kong and Hong Kong culture with different cities and cultures, and to show Hong Kong’s appearance covered by colonial and popular discourse one by one between the roaming reviews.Third,Ye Si’s practice on how to write Hong Kong stories: integrating personal experience and literary thinking into gazing at Hong Kong’s ordinary people,by selecting "small things",fixing the perspective of head-up,intercepting events in life that are full of thinking space, and reflecting on Hong Kong’s characteristics and literary features. The second chapter analyzes the concrete construction of "cultural perception" in Ye Si’s novels.Starting from the inside of the novel text, this paper discusses how Ye Si’s novels specifically construct "cultural perception" from two dimensions of time and space.Ye Si’s novels create a sense of "here and now" through the structure of time and space, and retain the feelings of Hong Kong people and things, forming a "Hong Kong memory" with personal characteristics,in order to resist the huge narration of Hong Kong stories.Through roaming and connecting the urban space, combining personal experience and memory to write the physical space, the physical space in turn constructs personal urban imagination of Hong Kong.At the same time, the narrative structure, expression methods and language style of his novels have obvious characteristics of theoretical novels. At intervals,he looks straight up and examines familiar Hong Kong personnel. This "defamiliarization" effect forms the unique textual temperament of Ye Si’s novels, leaving readers a rational space to think deeply about the possibility of communication within Hong Kong culture and between Hong Kong culture and heterogeneous cultures. The third chapter makes rational thinking on the writer’s literary ideas and standpoint reflected by the construction of "cultural perception".The continuous practice of Ye Si’s novels on Hong Kong’s native writing stems from his anxiety to explain Hong Kong’s cultural identity and his intention to preserve Hong Kong’s memory against foreign writing. As an academic writer,Ye Si’s novels have the feature of "cultural perception",which is inseparable from the discussion of Hong Kong’s cultural identity and literary theory by Hong Kong scholars since the 1970 s.In other words,it is precisely because of various voices in Hong Kong academic circles in the search for cultural identity that Ye Si consciously thinks about adjusting his own perspective in viewing and writing Hong Kong and continuously carries out literary practice.Through the way the narrator deals with the cultural exchange between Hong Kong and other cities in the novel,as well as the cultural attitude revealed when discussing the issues of tradition and modernity, east and west, etc.,this paper examines his cultural stand and literary theoretical pursuit, with a view to finally trying to watch and evaluate the literary value and cultural significance of Ye Si’s novels and their position in the history of Hong Kong literature. |
