The material of the translation practice report is excerpted from the book Environmental Science: Society,Nature and Technology.The book is a professional teaching material on environmental science by AKITSU Takashiro,a professor at Tokyo University of Science,which mainly expounds the relevant research to solve the current environmental problems from the perspectives of social science and natural science,and was published by publisher Jenny Stanford Publishing Pte Ltd in June 2019.In terms of content,the translation material selected in this report belongs to scientific and technological expository text,with many professional terms related to environmental science and chemistry,so the translation process is relatively difficult.Through reading many related literature and periodicals,it is not difficult to find that there are few translation practice reports of environmental science scientific and technological texts using translation shift theory as the guiding theory.According to this,the translation practice report selects the above theory as the guiding theory for this task,so as to seek new strategies for the translation of English-Chinese for science and technology in environmental science field.In this translation practice report,combing with Catford’s translation shift theory,the author deeply analyzes and summarizes the stylistic features and translation skills of environmental science scientific and technological texts from the perspective of translation shift,and makes further research and evidence with representative examples.According to Catford’s theory,this practical report introduces in depth the two levels of level shifts and category shifts.Among them,level shifts include tense shift and single-plural shift,while category shifts include structure shift,class shift and unit shift.In the hence,according to the analysis and summary of the translation practice report,the author,for one thing,could promote translator’s future translation practice and activities in the environmental science field,and for another thing,through the translation of foreign cutting-edge teaching materials for environmental science disciplines,provides some valuable references for domestic researchers to solve the problem of ecological pollution.
