| Metaphor is a common phenomenon in people’s daily life, and is usually used to describe different things.Cognitive Linguistics believes that metaphor is not just a figure of speech, but also a cognitive phenomenon and way of thinking.Lakoff and Johnson put forward the theory of conceptual metaphor on the basis of previous scholars’ research findings.Emotions of humans, which are diverse, abstract and hard to express, are usually described through metaphors, that is,to describe emotional concepts through concepts which are familiar and concrete in daily life so that these emotions can be more vivid. These metaphors of emotional concepts are generated according to people’s practical living experience and perception. With more and more attention paid to metaphors,it can be found that many metaphors come into being on the basis of metonymies, thus the use of metonymy is the daily life cannot be separated from that of metaphor.Systematicity of metaphor and metonymy via the combination of metaphor and metonymy is the most obvious in the construction conceptual domain. These complex combinations are analyzed in great detail in the domain of “emotions.”This paper mainly consists of four chapters.Chapter 1: Introduction. This chapter first analyzes the research background and significance, and then analyzes the theoretical basis and research status, pointing out that cognitive linguistics plays an unshakable role in expressing emotional concepts, and that cognitive expressions of emotional concepts has been widely studied at home and abroad. Finally, research methods, research corpuses and innovational points are introduced.Chapter 2: Definition of relevant concepts.Chapter 3: Analysis of cognitive expressions of Chinese emotional concepts in Uighur. This chapter is also the focus of this paper.Based on the textual analysis of Fortress Besieged, cognitive expressions of Chinese emotional concepts in Uighur are analyzed.Chapter 4 sums up the conclusions of this paper.Analysis of the similarities and differences of cognitive expressions of metaphors of these emotional concepts in Chinese and Uighur demonstrates that cognitive expressions of emotional concepts in Chinese and Uighur has many similarities because of similar physical experience and way of thinking. On the other hand, there are some differences between linguistic expressions of emotional concepts in Chinese and Uighur.Besides, the generation of emotional concepts are subject to natural, geographical, environmental and individual cognitive ability constraints, the slight differences of linguistic expressions between Chinese and Uighur are unavoidable. On the whole, however, cognitive expressions of emotional concepts of Chinese and Uighur are generally the same. |
