A Study On Translation Of Engineering Bidding Contract From The Perspective Of Nord’s Text Analysis

Recent years has witnessed the increasing number of engineering bidding projects released domestically and internationally.As the employer and bidder need to sign the contract or agreement to define their liabilities or obligations,the translation of the contract is becoming more and more important.Unlike the translation of English literary works,expertise and preciseness are much required in the translation of engineering bidding contract.Therefore,in order to the high-quality translation of engineering bidding contract and boost the development of world economy,it is necessary to study the translation of the Contract of Supply and Installation of LED Lighting System in Almaty.Christiane Nord,the second generation representative of the German functionalist school,developed the theoretical results of Textual Analysis Model.In this theoretical system,Nord not only analyzed eight extratextual factors and eight intratextual factors,but also proposed specific strategies,which include documentary translation and instrumental translation.This thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of the text’s content,background,purpose and significance.The second chapter is literature review.The third chapter is the brief survey of Nord’s translation text analysis model,including extratextual factors and intratextual factors.The fourth chapter studies the characteristics of bidding contract in terms of lexical,sentence and chapters.The fifth chapter is the application of Nord’s translation text analysis mode in the Contract of Supply and Installation of LED Lighting System in Almaty.Besides,this chapter analyzes the translation strategies,which are selected by the translators.The sixth chapter is the summary part.All in all,the thesis focuses on the Contract of Supply and Installation of LED Lighting System in Almaty under Nord’s translation text analysis framework,including the effect of the extratextual factors and intratextual factors.Therefore,translators could use appropriate translation strategies to translate source text,such as documentary translation and instrumental translation.
