This practice report is based on the translation of the third chapter of The Deepest South. The original text,in the historical and cultural context, demonstrates the performance of the United States and Brazil in the African slave trade, illustrates the history of the diplomatic relationshipbetweenthe U.S.and Brazil. The E-C translation of this text not only helps Chinese readers to further understand the history of African slave trade, but also provides references for the Chinese translation of historical texts.Guided by the Skopos Theory, taking the skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule as the basic principles, this report analyzes typical cases from the translation practice and expounds the translation methods and techniques adopted. This report discusses translation cases from lexical and syntactic levels. At the lexical level,it focuses on annotation, amplification, omission, and extension of word meaning. At the syntactic level,it mainly discusses division, adjustment of word order, and conversion of voice.By presenting the process of translation,it interprets the guiding significance of the Skopos Theory to the E-C translation of historical texts. This report consists of five parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the translation project. The second part analyses the original text. The third part presents a theoretical framework for the translation practice. The fourth part analyzes some cases. The last part is the conclusion.
