| Anton Stepanovich Arensky,a Russian conductor, composer and pianist, was well-known for his diversity of music style. His early works were inspired by the Eastern music,a result of admiration for Rimsky Kosakov while the latter ones, influenced by Tchaikovsky, are more focused on Russian folk songs and dances.Besides, influenced by Chopin, his piano etudes are both musical and skillful. The third piece of Four Piano Pieces Op.25 is one of his most important works, which gives him a profound international reputation. In terms of its composition, there are three aspects to look at.Firstly, the first is the use of the typical cyclotron on the structural form.Secondly,it combines the Chinese and western ways of melody composing, using the melody of Jasmine Flower,a Chinese folk song.Thirdly, the technique of polyphonic composition is adopted. The melody is conducted in multiple parts alternately rather than fixed on one part.In terms of technical characteristics, there are also three aspects.Firstly,in terms of the change of speed,no speed-changing-signal appears in the whole piece of song until it comes to the end.The second is on the strength, which shows differently on the main part, the connected and the inserted. The third is the use of the extending pedal and soft pedal. From the perspective of performance,it is necessary to highlight the main theme of the melody and make sure that each chord’s strength can be demonstrated in full power during the performance.Furthermore, the arpeggio should be conducted coherently and clearly. This research, through the analysis of the third piece of Arensky’s Four Piano Pieces Op.25,is intended to improve the performance of the author, and to shed some light on other studies of this work in the future as well. |
