Liu Xiang was a famous scholar in the late Western Han Dynasty,made immortal contributions in the history of philology.Because he had led the school’s secretary of the Five Classics and composed the book Bie Lu.In addition,he was also proficient in classics and literature.In view of the previous studies on Liu Xiang mostly focused on the classics and bibliography,this paper mainly discusses his literature.By studying the reception of Liu Xiang’s literary works in the pre-Tang period,grasping its diachronic development in the history of literature and exploring the reasons behind the different reception forms,we can have a more comprehensive understanding of Liu Xiang and his literary works.This paper will be divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction,firstly explaining the origin of the topic,and the overall grasp and analysis of the current research status;Secondly,it introduces Liu Xiang’s life,sorts out the existence or loss of his literary works,and clarifies the research object of this paper.The second part is about Liu Xiang unofficial history of miscellaneous biography class work acceptance study,which includes Lie Nv Zhuan 、Xin Xu"and Shuo Yuan.Given the Liu Xiang’s literary works with the nature of the "admonition",his original writing is object to the emperor.Therefore,this part is carried out from the perspective of rulers and scholars.Firstly,it discusses the emperors’ attitude towards miscellaneous history and miscellaneous biographies in the Han Dynasty.And secondly,from the perspective of scholars,it probes into the academic inheritance process of Lie Nv Zhuan among the six dynasties,and the scholars’ affirmation of the value of Xin Xu and Shuo Yuan.The third part is the acceptance of Liu Xiang’s writings.The research object mainly includes the ten preserved works,which were also written by Liu Xiang to the emperor and later recorded by Ban Gu in the Han Shu.Firstly,it introduces the background of the late Western Han Dynasty,as well as the writing characteristics of Liu Xiang in this environment.Secondly,it probes into the acceptance of writings by the rulers and scholars,and deeply analyzes Liu Xiang’s achievements in writings.The fourth part is the acceptance of Liu Xiang’s Ci Fu.Only two of his Ci Fu works remain intact.This part first introduces the creation of Liu Xiang’s Ci Fu,and then focuses on Wang Yi’s annotation and acceptance of Jiu Tan.The fifth part is the acceptance study of literary critics as the main body,and analyzes the changing trend of critics’ attitude towards Liu Xiang’s literary works,which has experienced from the extreme praise of Liu Xiang’s literary works by the literati in the Eastern Han Dynasty to the comprehensive and objective change represented by Liu Xie in the Southern Dynasty.
