A Report On E-C Translation Of The General Theory Of Translation Company Through Machine Translation And Post-editing

This report mainly relates to the translation of publications,machine translation(MT)and post-editing(PE).The book we translated,The General Theory of the Translation Company,is mainly concerned with the language industry(the translation task was entrusted to us by Master Translations(MTS)Co.,Ltd in Xiamen,China).Before the translation process,the author first emphasized the necessity and importance of text type analysis during translation tasks in accordance with Nord’s translation-oriented text analysis and Reiss’ text type theory.After the text analysis,the author believes that the original text is an informative and vocative text with a plain and friendly language style.The author and the translation team adopted“Machina Translation(MT)+ Post-editing(PE)” method and a detailed analysis of the performance of Sogou Machine Translation was conducted.The main advantages of Sogou machine translation include accurate rendering of terminologies and simple sentences.The main disadvantages of Sogou machine translation include erroneous translation,redundancy,omission,deficiency in OCR,improper register and sentence sequence,improper diction and so on.During the post-editing process,the author mainly adopted revision,addition,deletion,referring to the source text,sentence restructuring and idiomatic translation and other methods to help solving the problems of Sogou machine translation.This report is committed to prove the feasibility of using machine translation for translating certain genres of texts and summarize the process of translating The General Theory of the Translation Company(from Chapter 2 to the end).This report analyses the performance of Sogou translation(a machine translation system)during the translation process,including its advantages,disadvantages and deficiencies.This report also focuses on post-editing methods,post-editing rules and other matters that need our attention.The author believes that human-machine synergy is the future trend.The author sincerely hopes that this report can help people to understand machine translation and post-editing processes and provide useful information for related future researches and other translators who need to adopt machine translation.
