An Exploration Of The Machine Translation(MT)+Post-Editing(PE)mode

With the advancement of technology,the application of machine translation(MT)has become increasingly popular.Although machine translation(MT)has made progress in semantic understanding,the quality of MT is still a worrisome problem as a whole.Therefore,the machine translation(MT)+ post-editing(PE)mode emerges in the field of language services.Based on the popularity of globalization,the academic exchange between countries has become more and more frequent.Academic paper is regarded as a medium of academic exchange.Its translation is of great significance.In order to promote the spread of academic information,the thesis conducts the translation practice of English academic paper by adopting MT + PE mode.According to the text typology proposed by Katharina Reiss and Peter Newmark,the source text belongs to informative text.As regards the translation of informative text,communicative translation theory can provide important guidance.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,this thesis analyzes some errors of MT in the lexical and syntactic level and summarizes relevant post-editing(PE)strategies.To be more specific,the MT output shows the mistranslation and omission in lexical level.This thesis adopts full post-editing strategy and uses dictionaries to find the right meaning of vocabulary.In syntactic level,the MT output shows improper translation of passive sentence and attributive clause.This thesis adopts substitution,inversion,supplementation,division,prepositive and postpositive translation methods to adjust word order so that sentences will be more logical and are suitable for the ways of Chinese expression.In a word,this translation practice contributes to getting a better understanding of the translation of academic paper,enriching translation strategies.At the same time,it is of great practical significance to explore the application of machine translation in academic paper and discuss the corresponding post-editing strategies.
