| Forever Love is an online novel published in 2019,telling a love story between two unrelated siblings. Its language is simple, concise, smooth and natural. As part of the story is set in the ancient background, there are some expressions with cultural connotations. With reference to the functional equivalence theory of the American translation theorist Eugene Nida, this paper has analyzed the novel from multiple perspectives such as the content and style, and used different translation skills for translation. The analysis of the original story mainly includes character image reproduction, scene reproduction, and language style reproduction. The character image reproduction contains the translation of portrait and voice description, psychological description, and action description. The author of the paper has used the method of amplification and omission, conversion, negation, division and shifting, literal translation, and free translation.Scene reproduction mainly focuses on the restoration of atmospheric feelings, for which the author also used various cohesive means to ensure contextual cohesion and logical flow.Language style reproduction includes the translation of culture-loaded words and rhetorical techniques. The author has tried to localize some words with Chinese cultural connotations, and managed to weigh whether the original rhetoric should be retained or not.Through this translation practice, the author has deeply understood the complexity and joy of the translation of online literary works. She hopes this translation report will give some reference to future research in the related fields and contribute to the translation and promotion of Chinese online literature. |
